This had me feeling pretty darn miserable. At first, I thought it was just a bad case of the stomach flu, but when them symptoms wouldn’t go away, I knew something was up.
How did you react to all this?
So I hightailed it to see my doc, and after some tests and exams, we found out I had diverticulitis. I didn’t even know what that was at the time, but it sure sounded scary.
After that, I had to make some big changes to my lifestyle. I had to quit smoking, cut way back on my drinking, and start paying closer attention to what I was eating. I had to eat more fiber-rich foods like fruits and veggies, and steer clear of anything that could set off my symptoms.
Now, let me tell ya, living with diverticulitis has been no picnic. I’ve had several flare-ups over the years, and some of them have been downright painful. I’ve had to go to the hospital a few times and take antibiotics to help fight off the infections. And I’ve had to go under the knife a few times to get rid of the infected or inflamed parts of my colon.
But through it all, I’ve learned to manage my symptoms and keep living my life. I’ve had to change my diet and my habits, but I’m still able to enjoy my favorite things, like BBQ and cold beer (in moderation, of course!).
How do you cope living with diverticulitis?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you’ve gotta be proactive in managing your symptoms. Work with your doc to come up with a treatment plan that works for you, and don’t be afraid to make some changes to your lifestyle. It ain’t always easy, but with a little grit and determination, you can keep on truckin’ with diverticulitis.
Livin’ with diverticulitis has been a real challenge for this ol’ boy from Texas. But I ain’t one to give up without a fight, and I’m still goin’ strong after all these years. If you’re dealin’ with the same thing, just keep on keepin’ on, partner!
